  1. Hi, Michales does not offer Homeschool discounts anymore. They do offer discounts if you have your teaching certificate though.

  2. Ok, I just got off the phone with Micheals Corporate Headquarters, they have a policy for homeschoolers that states they ARE eligible for homeschool discounts. They understand not all homeschoolers have an ID badge but a letter of intent or copy of homeschooling documentation from your local school district is all that is needed to get approval for teaching discounts. If you have a store that is not complying with the policy they may have an ill-informed associate so I would ask to speak with the manager. If that gets you nowhere I would gently let them know you had the corporate policy confirmed. As a last resort, I would email corporate headquarter’s and let them know your store has been less than helpful about this matter.

  3. This is good to know. We have small children and we are just starting our homeschooling journey.
    Thanks so much!

  4. The info about Michaels is good to know, our store is not cooperative at all, so I will definitely be trying your advice!

  5. I just used one at Michael’s 2 days ago. No problem in MI. I also showed them all the other stores Teacher discount cards I have and they wanted me as a customer. We also have a JO Anns in the same lot, so maybe them knowing we could go there helped.

  6. Thriftbooks.com has a discount of 15% if you buy 20 books. It’s under their offers and teacher discount. Plus you get $5 off for every $50 you spend.

  7. I have a question, I don’t completely homeschool, my kids are enrolled in a virtual classroom so they have teachers but I’m the one that works with them. Since it’s a little different than homeschooling, even tho it’s at home would I qualify for this? Since the classroom is still at home and I’m the one organizing it?

  8. Yes, you would qualify for these discounts since they are using supplies from home and you are helping to facilitate their learning.

  9. How do we get the discount? Do we need to purchase a homeschooling card? I’ve seen websites selling them. Or do we just state that we are homeschooling at the store?

  10. Don’t trust anyone selling a homeschool card. Tell the store you are a homeschooler. You might even have a letter from the school district if you have to notify them in your state, you can use that to prove you are a homeschooler.
