The Reason I Wear An Apron In My Kitchen- You Won’t Believe Why!

I know you’re probably thinking- she loves to bake and wearing an apron keeps her from getting dirty or she uses the pockets to hold her recipe cards. I bet you think the reason I wear an apron has to do with food but guess what? I don’t wear an apron for any of those reasons or anything even close. I wear it because it makes me feel….empowered!

WHAT???!?

You know that feeling you get when you are wearing your favorite pair of jeans or a nice-looking dress? That is how I feel when I put on my apron in my home! I know this sounds a bit ridiculous but I feel like as women we have been seeking empowerment in the workforce and in all of these places, but we tend to forget where we already had all the power we needed at home.

Let’s talk about Moms!

We are indispensable to our families. As a mother, we are the caregivers and nurturers! What a gift to be able to kiss the boo-boos and hold them tightly! Our children look to us daily to be their guide and mentor through the journey to adulthood. Part of the reason I love homeschooling so much is that I am able to help strengthen their character and mold them into responsible adults.

Let’s not forget the power we wield in the kitchen. We nourish our families and love them with the food that we serve. We have the power to bring them together at the kitchen table. To love and comfort them with their favorite foods. Food has such an important role in all of our lives and guess who gets to be in the kitchen…YOU!

The most important and my favorite place of power is as a wife. I love that I can help build my husband up to be the man that I know he is. I have the power to speak words of encouragement to him, to show him how important he is. He needs my support and my love to help him lead our family.

Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created – Esther 4:14

This is one of my favorite verses. Perhaps this is your great purpose! You are the mother, the teacher, the wife, the homemaker, the domestic Diva. There is nothing wrong with being a mom, a wife and a homemaker. In fact, I think it is the single most important job there is. We are shaping and strengthening the next generation. We not only need to remember these values, we need to embrace them. You can absolutely WANT to be a homemaker. There is nothing wrong with choosing to raise a family over a career. Homemaking is the oldest and most rewarding career I can think of!

Don’t Tear Yourself Down!

These days people seem so eager to tear others down for making the wrong choice or embracing the old-fashioned values. Why can’t a woman’s great purpose in life be to shape and strengthen the next generation? She doesn’t have to be “more” than a stay-at-home mom. In a world full of social media “perfection” don’t feel like you’re not enough. You are more powerful than you know. 

Think back to your childhood. More often than not the people who shaped our lives were strong women. They didn’t hold the power to shape my character by the jobs that they held. No title or sizable paycheck could compete with the way my Grandmother would make me my favorite lunches, sing me my favorite song, and teach me by example to be kind to others. She shaped me and the rest of her grandchildren through words and actions while standing in the kitchen or vacuuming the floors. She showed us hard work and compassion. She taught understanding and forgiveness.
